What game do you go to when you just crave chaos?

I really want to play a game where I can just listen to loud music and swing cool weapons around. I’ve never played a rhythm combat game but Metal Hellsinger looks fun but not sure it’s exactly my vibe, halp

  1. It’s been mentioned here already but OP you’re really looking for Doom Eternal. Big weapons, gory melee kills, amazing soundtrack, plus there’s a really surprising breadth of different outfits and a decent camera mode lol

    Great game 10/10

  2. Goat Simulator 3

Edit: I’m sorry, I didn’t read the post before commenting. I thought you were asking for games with nonsensical goofiness and a very “Watch the world burn under the heft of my hoof” vibe. I stand by what I said here in that context!

  3. Broforce. All action movies known to humanity taken into one chaotic pixel-art shoot ’em all game. Not sure about the music though, I haven’t played it with sound. But it has the chaos part, everything constantly explodes, blood everywhere… It’s basically any Rambo movie (except the first one) as a videogame. And also for a game similar to Hellsinger, Brütal Legend, it’s a game where the main character, Eddie gets into a metal world after something from a stage fell on him (so, it’s basically an isekai, lol) and has to save the metal world from some bad guys that want to destroy metal. It has cool music, lots of famous bands and Jack Black voices Eddie and Ozzy Osborne voices Guardian Of Metal (he doesn’t have a big role in the game, but still, he’s there).

  4. Devil May Cry (DMC [controversial opinion I know], Devil May Cry 5), Enslaved: Odyssey to the West, DOOM Eternal, Borderlands series, Bayonetta. Less horde combat, more platforming, but still fun flow and cool weapons – Alice: Madness Returns.

  5. Any ARPG where you mow down crowds of mobs with OP spells, e.g. Diablo III, Grim Dawn, 40K Inquisitor, etc. That said I don’t swing cool weapons around, I gravitate towards flashy spells — Meteor, Albrecht’s Aether Ray, Hand Flamer, etc.

  6. Rhythm combat? Hi-Fi Rush, hands down! It’s so much fun, the music is great as well.

Most of my chaos games are really not combat based, though. I quite enjoy “Donut County”, where you gradually destroy a city through directing a little hole in the ground that gets larger the more you swallow, or “Say NO! More” that’s a very silly game about using NO in a very destructive manner!

  7. Synthetik. It’s a roguelike tactical shooter and insanely fun once you get somewhat competent at the game. It takes some time to get into, but you can completely modify the difficulty depending on your preferences as well. The soundtrack is great, and the gunplay is amazing. Synthetik 2 is also great, but even more punishing than the first game.

Oh, and considering it’s a roguelike (that you can also play in co-op, but it might end your friendship with friendly fire) you don’t have to commit a lot of time to the game. Just play a round and be over it, or stay on that grind until you’ve beaten the final boss.

  8. unironically fortnite even if i don’t like battle royales much bc it has a lot of silly stuff you can pull off: riding a rocket shot by your friend, running people over with cars, throwing people around, some probably wacky weapon or vehicle they add

  9. DOOM! So many mods out there for the classic games (and newer ones). Right now I love Doom Infinite; a mod that gives Doom 2 rouge-like elements like weaons with random quirks, power ups and abilities in levels, and one life per run!
