WOW! I have so many Annapurna games either in my collection or on my wishlist. I am really worried about how losing the entire team will affect the independent game devs currently working with this publisher. I have built up a lot of trust in the quality of their games but now I am going to wait for reviews.
I respect that the entire team walked out as a group, especially in this economy and with all the layoffs in the industry.
This is very sad news. Annapurna put out some excellent stuff
Ugh gross I don’t know it’s owned by Megan Ellison. So she pulled out of negotiations for spinning Annapurna off into its own company and everyone said “BYE!”. What a crappy situation.
Damn, I love a lot of Annapurna games. But if it was a shitty place to work at, then good for the staff to go! Off to greener pastures for them, I hope!
The Verge has a good rundown on this. Annapurna is a multi-media company; seems the games folks wanted to separate. I’m sure that was unattractive to the parent company, which definitely wants to use game IP to make TV/film deals. Here’s hoping the departed gaming staff find funding to start their own studio!
I wish them luck, they’ve published alot of great games over the years
I don’t know if it’s relevant exactly to this article. But people make games on yt made a video about indie superstars accused of emotional abuse. In the video Annapurna is mentioned.
It’s been awhile since I watched the video but this reminds me of that. I would recommended everyone interested to give it a watch.
I really hope all the staff manage to find better places to work.
I saw on r/Control that this is just a subsidiary that focuses on game development. Annapurna the publisher isn’t the one with mass quitting I think.
I hope they can form a new studio together because they’ve made some incredible games under Annapurna. I just replayed Gorogoa the other day for the 50th time
