Though I had figured things to be like this, I am very happy that a video was put together specifically to call it out. Thanks for sharing. That behavior is pretty blatant and unacceptable.
Years ago when I still played Overwatch, before I realzied I’m trans, I was always happy when I would run into women in the games I played, especially for competitive games because it didn’t happen often, or rather they wouldn’t talk in voice often.
I remember one game where this guy immediately loses his shit over one woman who just said “hi” in the pre-game pleasantries. Got even more pissy when she chose Mercy. I was the only one who spoke up, which since that was before voice training he just assumed I was trying to “white knight”.
We lost the game because he just refused to actually play, spending the entire time complaining, throwing all sorts of hateful stuff eventually putting it in game chat to bring the other team in.
She thanked me for saying something and we teamed up for a few games before going our separate ways. Having seen enough of that stuff prior to transition I’m also hesitant to speak now that I’ve done voice training. I’m more confident than I’ve ever been, and way more social, but knowing how many guys are like this, especially in competitive games, just makes me not want to risk it.
Which sucks, because I’ve always had more fun in competitive games when people talk and coordinate. Ends up just making me not play in the first place because I don’t want to deal with the toxicity, even though I enjoy playing competitive games.
Trash talk is fine, but these guys either don’t know the difference between trash talk and toxicity, or they know and just use “trash talk” as an excuse to be massive pieces of shit.
Not even just competitive. I played CS:S for many years starting when I was 13. The disgusting shit men would say to me was mind-boggling. I made it a point to play with a gender neutral name, not speak on the mic unless it felt like a safe space, and even then, I joined a clan just so I could ban people who were harassing me.
But it’s just as bad today, and sometimes it’s ridiculous how easily you can get banned for being racist on things like league, but I’ve seen many women get harassed by men and nothing is ever done about it.

Spawntaneous’s “OMG A Girl” series really opened my eyes to what women go through in gaming, shit is reprehensible
