what noticable differences have you encountered when you switched to curved monitors? my husbands IPS just died and hes about to switch to a MSI Pro MP341CQW 34" UWQHD and its one of those really long and huge ones and i kind of want it as well. i honestly love the white color its so cute.
been reading alot about it and ive seen that alot of games that i like either need mods to support ultra wide or flat out dont support it at all, kinda curious whats your experience with it
I don’t have an ultrawide at home but I’ve used them for work. I feel like if it’s a choice between one ultrawide or two 16:9, I would rather have two 16:9 because you can use applications in fullscreen while still having your other screen, you can use the two monitors for different devices at once, and if you have problems with one monitor failing you still use the other in the meantime. I can’t say anything about gaming with an ultrawide or any kind of curved monitor though.
I’ve been using a 21:9 monitor for a few years now and I’ve been able to use it for almost every game I’ve played. Sometimes there can be problems when games don’t support it, especially with user interfaces. There is 3rd party support available for a lot of games but not always. Sometimes you’ll have to change your screen resolution in your computers settings to get around incompatibility issues, which can be a hassle, but it’s a minor inconvenience at worse. Those problems aside ultrawide is totally worth it when you can use it and I’d say it’s worth buying one. I’m not sure what to say about curved monitors. Mine is curved but I can’t really explain the difference but I have noticed one, although I’m not sure if it’s a difference I like or not. That’s after having a curved monitor for a few years now so take of that what you will.
As long as it’s not aggressive and ultra wide it’s good imo. 16:9 curved monitors annoy me tho
I have one and it’s excellent. The lack of support for this from games that require modding is way overblown. I feel like only some really backward Japanese developers still have trouble supporting ultra wide monitors like Ace Combat 7 where I have to re-mod it to support ultra wide every time they update the game. Other games even from Japan like Final Fantasy XIV, Monster Hunter that I’ve played all support it without any issue.
The level of immersion from having more of your peripheral vision filled is unmatched by normal monitors. Although for the square-ish monitors that most people have, I wouldn’t get a curved one since it makes it more restricting I feel. The curve on an ultrawide isn’t very noticeable until you sit in front of a flat one and the edges look a little unnatural.
Is your question related to having a curved monitor or a Ultrawide?
I have a 32″ curved monitor and a flat one. I don’t notice a difference between the curved and not.
These are both 16:9 ratio monitors though. and I’ve personally never used an ultra-wide.
While most if not all modern games will run on the monitor just fine, many games today do not allow you the customize the UI adequately to be able to make it an enjoyable experience..
If you go full screen, all your UI will most likely end up in the corners of the monitor, making them difficult to find when needed or downright uncomfortable to look at often.
The best solution is to run the game in a windowed mode or on half the monitor, but then you may as well just get 2 monitors and not have to think about it.
Ultra-wide are great for productivity, but so far they lack support among games and specifically UI designers to be viable imo.
Curved yes. But something like the big curved odysee not. Its generally a hassl because you cant use it fully when reading an article for example
I’ve had a curved ultra wide (21:9) for like 3+ years now and I love it. I have the Samsung Odyssey G8 34” 1440p OLED and it’s a dream. It’s pricey but if money isn’t an option I don’t think anything else is as good.
I have the 49 inch Samsung odyssey and it’s fantastic, I could never go back. Excellent for both gaming and productivity. It’s true not every game supports the ratio, but then it just gives you normal screen ratio anyway so it’s not like it’s a worse experience vs a standard monitor. As ultrawides get more and more common though, more and more games are supporting them.
I got an ultra wide curved monitor way back when it was still relatively new tech and almost no games had native 21:9 support. It was definitely disappointing at times but as the tech has normalized it’s become more common and for older games there’s usually a modder that will come in to allow it if they can. Flawless Widescreen is what I used to help with it.
It’s definitely neat to have a screen as wide as you can see, but unless you’re doing something like flight simming I honestly have found better results from a standard 16:9. The big thing is going to be desk space and whether it is your only monitor versus having a secondary one. For the longest time I only had desk space for the one monitor and it felt pretty limiting as I would like to have things like discord and YouTube or Twitch on my second monitor. While you’re multitasking it is feasible to just snap two windows to either side of your screen yes, but if you have to run an application that doesn’t support it or you need full screen having the second monitor is very nice.
My opinion on the matter is this: you can make it work and it is very cool and pretty when it does, but there’s definitely a loss in QoL even when running it optimally versus having two normal monitors.
