I was so excited about Kai’sa until they revealed her design. How is it her father comes out of the void like, fully disabled and relying on a full body suit and face mask to survive, and she comes out looking like a supermodel with perfect hair and makeup? Cmon, man. She could have been so much more interesting looking. I always played her with the mask toggled on for that reason (before I quit the game, that is. lmao)
She has become UGLY and HIDEOUS because she got some markings on her face
Ah yes, the Ready Player One syndrome.
Trying to make us think a beautiful woman is the ugliest thing in the world because she’s got some barely visible marking around her face and/or eyes.
Also it’s totally Alita, very inspired design guys.
lol they really just recreated the “everyone is so mean to me 🍑” meme and called it a day huh
I know bits and pieces of lore:
So basically the void is an alternate dimension that when it came into contact with the world of Runeterra, basically every creature in there hated the noises and light caused by it, mutating to try and snuff it out. This woman was presumed dead when void monsters attacked her village, and her father went on a crusade to kill them all. In actuality, she bonded to void creature and can freely enter and exit the void, and assumes she’s a hideous monster despite the fact she’s got “latex bodysuit in any spy/action movie” syndrome.
Man…. Kai’sa’s character design was such a let down upon release. League had been improving on having female characters with different silhouettes like Jinx, Illaoi, Rek’Sai, and Kalista. Kai’sa was released in 2018, but she looked like a 2011 female champion with a similar face and body type to Katarina.
Her story was about being a child that was trapped in the void for several years, and it was a big deal that players were finally going to get to see her escape the void, only for her to look…. like a gorgeous bombshell???? She’s somehow well nourished with double D’s??? Maybe her design and story was planned closer to 2011, so that’s why her design came out like this. idk.
I could also suppose that this is why I don’t mind the handsome/pretty boy designs of male champions like Viego. A lot of male players wanted him to look like something similar to Mordekaiser, but as those male players might say when talking about Kai’sa “people like pretty/sexy champions who sell more skins” *smiles*
Okay well, ya’ll enjoy Kai’sa, I’m gonna enjoy Viego and the boy band version of Aphelios.
Side note: I do enjoy the [K/DA](https://ddragon.leagueoflegends.com/cdn/img/champion/splash/Kaisa_26.jpg) and [Star Guardian](https://ddragon.leagueoflegends.com/cdn/img/champion/splash/Kaisa_40.jpg) Kai’Sa skins.
Her [concept designs](https://www.reddit.com/r/kaisamains/comments/wf2q79/kaisa_concept_art_where_she_had_much_better/) are way cooler. But it’s known monsters are less popular than human chracters + attractive ones sell better. At least it’s equal though, lots of muscular, handsome men in League.
I personally prefer interesting over attractive though. Like Seraphine’s concept art also looks better than her current one. The designs just get nerfed for mass appeal and skin sales.
I feel like if they were trying to make us understand her as a monster and still go with a vaguely attractive design they could’ve gone the mileena route of making the top part of her face look beautiful. And then making the bottom part of her face withered and monsterous. I also feel like she should probably have a more vagabond with a future aesthetic esc look if they’re going with an outcast story beat. Also the under suit being a void monster thing should probably have some living elements to it to show it’s not just a generic skin tight body suit
Y’know, I wouldn’t even be *too* bothered with her keeping a human face if she had clear monstrous body alterations. Tentacles, claws, eyes in weird places, SOMETHING.
Looks like Riot has gone back to their old, misogynist ways. Unsurprising but disappointing.
“I am the monster in those stories” is this another textbook example of bad character design or am I missing something?
by far the biggest missed opportunity when it comes to league characters
i don’t know who this character is, obviously a LoL character going by the description. i like her design, i think the suit looks pretty and the cape(?) is kind of cool. is she supposed to be a monster? she just kind of looks like batman-lite
I’m distracted by the cape that has been lifted out of the way to show a bum shot.
“But she has glasses! And a ponytail!”
The idea is that as a child she got trapped in this eldritch dimension and she had to fuse her body with abominations to survive. Now she’s back with humans and doesn’t know how to interact with them, or if they’ll consider her part of the void.
I agree that the sexy bodysuit is at odds with her theme, and she definitely benefited from the Runeterra treatment. But there is a valid lore reason why she’s concerned that people will think she’s a monster.
What do you mean?
Isn’t she literally part monster though?
Idk league she should unhinge her jaw or something?
Either way, bring back KDA 2025 pls 🧎🏽♀️➡️
I’m reminded of the aside in the Barbie movie about them having chosen the wrong actress to convince audiences that she was “imperfect.”
And this is why she’s the character I find the most boring and unlikable. She could’ve been really cool.
“Why is everyone so mean 2 me 😢”
How can people even take this seriously? That design and weird proportions would make not even take her seriously lol.
yea im a literal kaisa hater for this exact reason. it was the beginning of riot creatives just going completely unprofessionally horny on main and realizing “fuck respectable creative IP, sex sells 🤑🤑🤑”
the era of cool and genuinely diverse and fleshed out characters died after the time of illaoi. shoutout to zeri though, her inspiration is cool af, ppl just hate her bc she’s strong in pro
this entire thread is so based 🥹 frrrrr go off everyoneeeee
I mean she literally became a monster to survive? She morphed with a void creature for her survival. Void creatures are literally ”monsters”. I don’t understand this post honestly.
Respectfully, wtf is she talking about. She better be a stereotypical hottie monster like a vampire or something bc she is ✨️ *GORGEOUS* ✨️ and that’s just her face. Like look at that booty! You could bounce a quarter off it!
As a male (I’m almost 40 though) I find “fan service” to be degrading to a product, unless the product, culture, or franchise was always based on that. What’s the best definition of the term? Would be including pizzas in TMNT be fan service, or not because it’s always been a part of the characters, e.g? I’ve never delved deep into the concept, I simply remember it from the anime world as a teenager, and when the term came up it seemed to be in connection with too-nerdy stuff. In the context of a general audience item like Leage oL; I (absolutely) don’t need to see skin or figures, doesn’t the game appeal to children? It’s made for a general audience. Isn’t the appeal to see little characters fight it out combined with advanced strategy and tactics? I’m sure the game was originally made to be popular, but does every game like that become and stay popular based on having some sexualised characters?
since when do we hate baddies?
What is wrong with women looking appealing? She doesn’t look even like a model, but normal and fit, as she should?
I don’t disagree that she was designed a certain way to sell. That’s exactly why she looks the way she does.
BUT I think it’s also important to remember that even people that look “conveniently attractive” still might heavily struggle with body dysmorphia. Or still struggle to see themselves, or something they’ve done as not monstrous.
Just good to remember and hold both truths at the same time.
